  Q.  What makes Earl’s different from other cosmetology schools?  GO TO TOP

A.  We cannot speak for other schools.  What we do know is that we have an exceptional staff dedicated to YOU.  We are proud to have thousands of hours of combined experience, youth, and innovation within our instructors.  Students do not just learn the theories behind cosmetology, but actually perform traditional and contemporary styles for all types of hair.  We use only professional products for both training and client services.  Through the years, we have developed a system of training that focuses on the industry, trends, state board requirements, but most importantly,  YOU.

Q.  Does financial aid cover the cost of the training?GO TO TOP

A.  For almost all students, financial assistance is available in a variety of forms of  federal education grants and loans.  Because Earl’s is a fully accredited school, we are able to assist students with understanding and applying for the funding needed. The majority of students have their tuition completely covered though these federal funds.  Credit checks are not required for student loans.  We are always willing to work out payment plans for those who do not wish to or not eligible to apply for federal funds.

Q.  Is there an age requirement to enroll?GO TO TOP

A.  No.  You do, however have to have one of the following:

(*)  High School Diploma  (*) State Certified General Equivalency Diploma (GED)

Q.  Do I have to purchase my own tools or the products I use while I train?GO TO TOP

A.  Within the first week of beginning class, you will receive a kit containing virtually your entire kit.  This includes all of the tools you will need throughout your training.  The cost for this kit is included in the total tuition and training cost.   All of the products you will use during your training are provided by Earl’s.

Q.  How long does it take to complete training?GO TO TOP

A.  Although students will begin sessions on a mutual start date, graduation dates vary depending on schedules that students choose as they progress.  Students are required to remain with their beginning class throughout the Freshman session (300 hrs).  Upon completing all requirements for Freshman class, many students opt to “excel”.  This means that you can attend additional hours per week thereby reducing the time in school.  Typical course length is as follows:

Fulltime:   1year +10 Days  Part time:    18 months

Students excelling to 40 hours per week after the Freshman class can complete training in as little as 10 months.

Q.  How much individual attention can I expect from instructors?GO TO TOP

A.  We limit the size of sessions entering.  Class sizes range from 8 to 15 students respectively.  When students complete the Freshman class and begin services on the clinic floor, several “floor instructors” are available for consultation during every stage of the service being performed.

Q.  Do I get a cosmetology license from your school.  GO TO TOP

A.  In a word,  No.
When you graduate from Earl’s you will receive a Diploma.  You will have had to complete all requirements for the school including all testing, board preparation and satisfaction of final tuition balance.  Upon receiving your Diploma, it is up to you to apply to the Arizona State Board of Cosmetology requesting the examination required for licensing.  Within approximately two weeks of application, you will be notified of the date to participate in the testing.  The state board test consists of both written and practical applications.  Within approximately two weeks of completion the test, you will be notified that you have or have not passed. The Arizona State Board of Cosmetology is located in Tempe, AZ.  The academy will assist with paperwork and basic instruction for application. There is a minimal testing fee for both the practical and written parts of the test as well as the license itself.  Earl’s Academy prides itself in achieving 97% “pass the first time” record among our graduates.  If you apply yourself during your training, you WILL pass your exam.

Q.  Will I have a lot of homework?GO TO TOP

A.  That is entirely up to you.  Cosmetology is not a field that you can read a book about and then go cut someone’s hair.  You have to do it.  At Earl’s you will participate in theory as well as applying your skills to the craft.  The key is attendance.  If you are here and participate FULLY, you will find that the majority of your work will be completed at school.

Q.  What is the Dress Code?GO TO TOP

A.  You are expected to present yourself in professional attire everyday.  Upon starting class, you will receive a black smock, a black apron and Student Identification tag with your kit. Either the smock or the apron as well as your ID tag are required everyday.

Q.  Do you have vacations?GO TO TOP

A. Students attend classes year round.  We do, however observe an entire week over the Christmas holidays as well as New Years Day, Presidents' day, Martin Luther King, Jr. day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day and Thanksgiving.

Q.  How do I enroll?GO TO TOP

A.  The first step is to come into the academy and see what we do and how we do it.  You will tour the school and meet with a representative.  You will determine if Earl’s is right for you and we will advise you of session availability.  When you decide that you are ready, you will need to present the following:

  • Education Documents (HS Diploma or GED)

  • Picture Identification (ID card, Driver License or Passport)

  • Social Security Card

  • $ 100.00 Registration Fee

  • Official documentation of hours achieved at other cosmetology school(s) (if applicable)
